JAPANESE REPLY TO CHINA'S PROTEST DELIVERED
{THROTH REUTER'S AGENCY]
Peiping, Jan. 12.
OFFICIAL reports, both Chinese and Japanese, to-night state that all is quite on all fronts. There has been no fighting yesterday or to-day and no immediate change in the situation appears to be ex pected.
An official Chinese spokesman statea that no megotiations yet have taken place, and the Chinwangtao persistent reports to the contrary are probably due to the fact that the Chinese command has sent an officer to explain to the Japanese the events in connection with the Arrest and execution at Chinwang- the of a Manchukuo spy.

OVERSEAS trade for the year 1939 show that the value of imports was £701,136,000, compared with 902,175,000 in 1931. British exports in 1032 totalled £388,138,000 compared with £330,164,000 in the previous year.

that during the year in which the Newspaper express satisfaction international feeling in trade was so pronounced, British figures have been so well maintained.
The Daily Telegraph says that, with the exception of the United States, the totni of British exports last year is likely to be consider ably larger than that of any other country, and that further if these figures were converted at par, ex- change values of exports are actu ally higher than those of the United States..
Importance is attached also to the fact that the balance of Bel- tain's trade is greatly improving.
The Morning. Post - saya the shrinkage in the total values is partly attributed to the reduced evel of price and the big reduc tion in the import total is an in- dication of the effective character of the new import duties in assist- ing to redress the balance of trade.
The League Assembly also, will probably have to meet at an early date to decide whether the United States and Russia will be asked to participate in the conciliation The form the Conciliation Commit In an interview with a Reuterstee will take must also be decided.
