(During the intervals recorded from-Darwin to. Singapore to con-

music will be broadcast from 'nect with an English service to

the Studio.) England. The Committee thinks! that to accept the offer of Imperial Airways to provide a through Fer. vice with England would be more costly than to set up an Austra-: lian service to Singapore,

Dutch Offer Discounted.

It discounts the Dutch offer of a link service from Java on the grounds that cost for the carriage, of mails would be high, that the service might be discontinued in the event of small loadings, that Australian civil aviation would be adversely affected, that it would be doubtful whether the British Post Office would use a Dutch ser vice for outward mails, and that national political considerations pointed to co-operative English- Australian service.

It is recommended that the Aus tralian service to Singapore should. only carry mails in the early. stages, flying the route once week- ly, a distance of 2,324 miles.

Proposed Schedule.

The proposed schedule provides for the delivery of mails in Bris bane, Sydney, and Melbourne on the 17th day from London, in Perth on the 18th, and in Adelaide on the 18th. It is suggested that the Imperial Airways service should be expedited to provide delivery a day earlier.

An inclusive fee of 1a. 6d. a half- ounce is recommended. The esti moted revenue, excluding ordinary posttge, in £23,000 for the first JOST.

Recommended Route,

The route recommended from Singapore is over Sumatra, Java, and Timor, with stopping places at Batavia, Sourabaya, Bima and Dilli. Wich, some variations the Australian Government has also adopted the report of the Commit- tee as to the internal air mail ser vioes. These are: An eastern trunk service from Port Darwin via

and Western Queensland

New South Wales to Cootamundra, with branch services from Clencurry to Normanton and from Charleville to Brisbane Cootamundra will be the point of distribution of air mails to 'Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide,

Melbourne-Hcbat,

An air monil service will also be arranged between Melbourne and Hobart. The western trunk ser vice will diverge from the eastera. at Katherine, in North Australia, and follow the route via Broome to Parth, with a branch service to Wyndham.

Tenders will be invited for al ternative services as follows: Porti Darwin to Singapore Port Dar win to Cootamundra; Katherina te Perth Melbourne to Hobart; The tander will be permitted to ten- der for the whole or any of the alternatives. The tender will pro bably specify a five years' contract for the oversea service, but it is probable alternative tenders will be invited for internal air sorvice of two or five years.

It will be stipulated that con tractora or companies tendering must be British.
