The principal in- terest contred upon the telescope given to Nolson by Lady Hamilton and Captain Thomas Masterman Hardy, and used by Nelson at Trafalgar. The contest was opened with call of 300 guineas, it then advanced by 10, 20 and 60 guinea stages until 1,000 guineas had bean called, when the hundreds were adopted and finally the hammer fell at 1,450 guineas.
