SHANGHAI, Dec. 28. Owing to the December Settle- ment, prices showed only insigni- ficant variations, as a rule, on the $10.40 Shanghai Stock Exchange during the week under review. Activity was practically at a standstill, the total turnover amounting to 4,474 shares. The dullness extended over to Wednesday's trading, when the market continued to be an unin- teresting affair. Shanghai Lands were comparatively active, business being done at 26. Intascos reached 4.30 cash and 4.35 January.

Markets opened in a distinctly optimistic mood this morning, which, later in the day, developed into a strong forward movement.
