BRITISH DYE-MAKING
The remarkable expansion in the British dyestuffs industry since the passing of the Dyestuffs (Import Regulation) Act, 1920, is shown in & report of the -dyestuffs industry development committee.
Output of dyestuffs, the report reveals, advanced from 23,832,0071b. in 1922, to 55,785,0321b, in 1929- the highest output recorded in any
one year.
Before the war we manufactured at. home only per cent, of the dres used here. Since 1928 we have been manufacturing between 90 and 03 per cent.
In view of this success the com- mittee recommends that:
The Act be continued on its pre- sent basis. for three years after Dec. 31.
Two members of the committee recommend the continuance of the Act for five years, in view of the period usually occupied by scienti fic research;
