XMAS INTERFERS WITH LEAGUE MATCHES
At the time of writing these notes I have been able to locate tho mtch between Craigungower and the Indian Recreation Club which was down for last Saturday,
rather faney it was not played but if it was I may manage to locate it before going to press. The only other game in the first Division was a friendly between the University and the Civil Ser- vice on the latter's ground. Ander son as ual did well For C.R.C.C. Monday's Games,.
I have already dealt at full length with the Club and Army. Kane. The match between the K.C.C and Navy was rather dis appointing as the bome side hit the. Navy bowling all over the piaco, and then got them all out for ninety-five. The I.R.C. collected a hund and Afty-three against the University at Sockunpoo. A. П. Madar came off nearly wrote "at last"-and. Bakar got twenty- "five. The Varsity made a draw of it easily enough, as both Anderson and Rodrigues came off.
To-morrow.
Most teams are." resting ", over the week end, but the K.C.C are at home to the Army on the Satur- day and Sunday-according to the Card. I fancy they have another show on on the ground on the serend of January. The Club play the Navy on Saturday and Mon. day, and if their batting again collapses one really will not know what to think. Wednesday's cric ket rather inclines me to think that R. J. Shaw would do better if he went in a bit later. The good showing of the Navy agains the Army, whe heat the Club, suggests si exciting game. but I cannot help thinking the Club must win, R. ABBIT.

་
This game was resumed yesterday in beautiful cricket weather and bright sunshine. Faden and Yatoa bowled to the not-outs, Garthwaite and Cragg, and the former proceed ed to send up quite slow medium with no man out, and a shortish mid-off. Both batamen availod themselves of this before man went out. With the total at ninety- nine. Yates got a beauty past Cragg's defence (0-3-11), and the rans were not yet knocked off. With Colledge in however the bats. were seemed to get on top of things, and the Army were twenty-two on when the new bataman seemed to try and force Thompson, who ha rolieve Eaden; to leg and gave da caay chance in the slipa. (132-4-12.)
Hard Hitling.
The reverse seemed to encourage Garthwaite, who had completed his fifty for he was very heavy on Jemmett, bowling vice Yatoɑ, and tared all round the wicket at a good pace. Dewey emerged from his seclusion sufficiently to crack a beautiful straight four all along the carpet.
Burnett Again Bowls,
At one hundred and fifty-four Burnett went on,& very wise move
und he should have had Dewey. taken at dorp square leg but most annecountably Farnhill, really good field, tried to catch it on his ehest-and succeeded. It was the only time either batsman tried to get more than a single and was hard lines on D.8. Shortly after Eaden agan resumed. (It occurs to me that we have in this match alone dven more of it than Adam and Eve erer did!) He nearly bowled Garth- waith with a plumb shooter which went for four byes. Runs now came fast and at a hundred and seventy- que tifli was taken,

so well for the Army after tifin Dewey was out almost at once and Garthwaito. was taken very low down by Jemmett off Yates when three short of his century. No one else stopped very long and in all the last six wickets only put on sixty-seven, runs, leav ing the Navy a hundred and twenty- nine to get to win."
The Final Innings.
Just about three the Navy started on their task, and Marsham was Lb.. in the first over to Garth! waite. At seventeen Farnhill again got out trying to put the ball to leg and mistiming it badly. Things looked none too good for the bat ting side. Garthwaite had rosumed his threo inner leg fielders with one man deep and fairly fine. Then, however, Shaw started to pull the game round a bit. He was picking his ball a bit more carefully but was, as before very hard on Mire. house, although he only just carried eover on one occasion. The score jose to fifty, mostly by fours, and Dewey went on and Shaw was badly dropped off a skier at deep mid on..
Stand Broken,
At sixty-one Eaden played at one of Garthwaite's which he should have left alone and was brilliantly caught very high up by Dewey at first slip. Bennett did not survive long, playing outside one from Garthwaite which swung in a bit and took the leg stump. (85-4-0) Shaw did not seem, entirely comfort. able with Dewey, but got a single and drove. Garthwaite twice for four. Next over he again failed to get hold of Dewey and was caught in front of the pavilion by Davies. He had made fifty-eight out of seventy-five and the betting was against the Navy. In the same over Drew stopped one but it rolled on to the wickets before he could stop it. (750-4.) After a further and precarious-three were collected tea was taken,

Ups and Downs.
Garthwaite's first ball after tea Yates took Donald's off stump. came in and appeared to try and knock the bowlers off their length, He hit two and one off Garthwaite and then straight drove Dewey and after carted him to leg both for four. In Dewey's next over he sur- vived a confident appeal for a entch at the wicket, and then hoicked „round an amazing two to square lég-- Later, he on drove Garthwaite for four and sent the hundred up amid loud applause Just after, Burnett,

"SATURDAY'S LEAGUE
MATCHES
The Navy team consists of Shaw The following English and Scot and an occasional bright idea bytish league matcher are down for someone else as regards the batting decision on Saturday:-- Their bowling was fair and their fielding brilliant. The Army were definitely an A team and had only Garthwaite has three bowlers, taken twenty-three wickets in the Mirehouse's bat two games, and is. a very useful and untiring bowler. ting was also a feature of the garne.
