Lane, Urawford's-For the next two weeks" wo will all be looking for X'mas gifts, and what can be more suitable or attractive than the lovely articles in the Ladies' Salon at Lane, Crawford's There are dainty powder puffa with posies of flowers' in a glass bowl; long hand- Jed back puffs in tinsel and ribbons, cocktail picks in quaint stands and. a very great variety of attractive cigarette boxes and ash trays. Crystals and plain glass heads, or coloured imitation stance, which are worn so inucl these evenings, would be very appropriate as gifts. I noticed a very large collection of fancy handkerchiefs in cotton, linen eripe de chine and georgette, ! some embroidered in colour while others were edged with fine lace. For kiddies, hankies make a useful present, and are specially accept- able done up in very nice boxes with nursery rhymes. There is a multi- tade of other things too numerous to mention, and I would advise an early visit to Lane, Crawford's within the next few days before all the best things go.

Whiteaway's.--Everything for a gay Christmas season is seen nt Whitenway's. There are things for carnival use, from hats and caps trumpets rattles and other noisy instruments, falas boards and noses, { fancy crackers of all sizes and colours, done up in baskets, UGW- balls and "toibons" all of which go to make a party gay, The crackers are by no means expensive this year very attractive boxes of dozen pretty crackers being priced only from 81.75.

In the toy department there is everything for, the youngsters and if possible, this year's toy-fair is better than ever. For the small book. lover there is quits a number of the annuals for boys and girls and also (
