CRICKET NOITES

A DULL WEEK-END

On Saturday last there were only two matches in the First Division and they were both Friendlies. In tooking over the cards I find that most First Division teains have several blank Saturdays during the Season, and 1 incllne to think that, in years when there is no Inter- port, each first Division Club might very well play two matches against every other Club, cue at homo, and 'one away. It only menus fourteen matches, which is fourteen weeks, while the Season

for the consideration of the League, that is, suppose they ever consider anything. Interport years, I quite recognise that the League cannot really start until towards the end of November, and a single match between each Club is as much as can be expected. This, however, may be upset if the proposal, at} present under discussion, I am told, zous through that we send a team scoring runs. McInnes hatted very up to Shanghai in October instead nicely for his forty-seven, and had of May, na obviously the team only one or two poor shots, which would go late in October and thus did not go to hand. Perry, who, the time available for Lengan by the way, is a Civil Servant, matches would be seriously short-played

nice ened. I am rather in favour of strokes and is clearly a very useful the idea, myself, that the team batsman. Lay hit fairly well but, should go in October, as, apart was not at his best. None of the from the weather, I would rather play a team just on their toes at the beginning of h, season, even if they are a bit short of practice, than one which has in the normal way completed its cricket season a month before. However, that is all ahend of us, and the fact remains that this year the Secretaries have had to spread seven league fixtures over five or six months.

It is interesting to note that H. Reid bowled woll but the batsmen took no liberties with him and by concentrating on, just stóp- ping the ball managed to keep their wickets up.. Sargent puzzled them at times but they did not treat him with so much respect and he got four wickets for twelve runs apiece, F. K. Once more the batting of the Civil-Service team failed, this time at Kowloon Burnett bowled very well (and aw him bowl ten long hops, & full toss and a half volley
