As to the race meeting, a very interesting programme has krranged and punters aro sure to have plenty of fun trying to pick winners as the chances are vir open in six of the seven races un The card.
Soven ponies have been entered for the opening race of the day bat as four of these seven have also, been entered for the ladies race, which is the last event on the card, it is not likely that the field for the first race is going to be very big. Whitelall, speedy little pony is due for a win and it would ant surprise me to see this pony catch the judge's eye to-morrow. Guiding Star is in at the comfort- able weight of 140 lbs, and should not find it difficult to get a place. If Prestwick is sent out here, he might to num into a phice, but in all prob. abilty he will be kept for the last
FAC
Mr. Colp" has Common and Pathaway entered for this event and if he is one or the oth out, he ought to get placed in the absence of Prestwick.

Of the six ponita entered for the Sydney Handicap (oner round), the handicapper has chosen City of Melbourne for top weight and An- niversary Eve far bottom weight. The chances in this race are open 1 nlthough City of Melbourne, a useful pony for this sprint event, might be made hot favourite, it would not surprise me in the least if he were to be beaten. Manna will be getting a concession of 10 pounds and he might prove to be Airdrieonians too tough a aut for City of Mol Ayr bourne to crack. Joaquim, at low Celtic weights has beaton such a classy Dundee candidato an Evening Star, so o Falkirk might conceivably_pop_t surprise Hamilton to-morrow. Tin Tae. Orlando made a good effort to run away with the "D" Class rhce at Happy Valley last week and the shorter race should suit him very well, though the pony is not always dependable.
Powerful King has been shaping quite promisingly in recent outings in Macao anal if sent out here ought say about to have something the result. In spite of the fact that there are twenty ponies-entored for this race the issue seems to bo confined between Valley Hall at 159 pounds, Whoonder at-150 pounds and Gallnat Fox at 180 pounds. No catches howover were put up and the first time MacKny lashed out ho was taken at mid-off. (180-5-40.) Hung brightened things up, hooking Divett well. To him the com munity in general; and sportsmen in particular, will no doubt extend a very hearty walanné with all good wishes for a successful_and happy career in the Colony. Long may he carry on the good work which his father has been doing on the cricket field, and as he is re puted to be a very good bateman, we may see the day when father and son will open the innings for Hong Kong in an interport.com- tost against Shanghai.
As I do not belong to the old school, I cannot claim to have progress on the watched Tam'" cricket field right from the start, but as one who has followed local cricket very closely during the last ten or fifteen years, there are some cricket in "Tam's" incidenta career during that time which are worth recalling.
