There is no intention on the part of the War Office to restrict the engagement of military bands at greyhound racing, but in future these bands must only be used to play suitable music at "any pre-. determined place on the grounds."

SESSIONS.

Immedinte Action:

During the last few weeks the War Office has received many lel- ters pointing out, that the bands of the various Guards' battalions have been made to look foolish by escorting winning dogs around the tracks.

To one correspondent an official of the War Office has replied:

I am directed to acknowledge your letter drawing attention to the band of the Scots Guards,

during an

engagement at the Clapton Stadium, marching in procession round the track, and to inform you that suitable action was taken immediately after the occurrence to prevent a repetition of the incident.

Demands have been made upon the War Office to refuse permission for military bands to attend grey- hound racing meetings.

***Lack of Dignity."

They have declined to make suon a drastic decision.

It is felt that the case will be met by the orders to prohibit bauds from taking part in processions,

It has been the custom at many London tracks to use military bands-including the famous bands of the various Guards battalions. to lead a procession in which are the winning greyhounds, led by white-coated trainers.

It has been contended that the sight of a greyhound. following a Guard's band in full uniform lack- ed a sense of dignity and pro- prjety.
