BIG SURPRISE IN AUSTRALIAN EVENT

The sport provided at Happy Valloy yesterday was as thrilling na on Saturday and favourites once again shared honours with out- aiders.

Bag and Baggage was beaten by Cyclamen Bay in the main raco of the day, the Double Tenth Handicap, and in the Australian race, Manna and Mermaid werd both beaten.

MR. PAN RIDES FOUR WINNERS

Mr. B. N. Pan was the mort successful jockey of the day, win- ning four races.

Kwangsi Handicap, This race over, a mile and a quarter drow six starters, Wild 'Life (Mr. Pan up) being made a hot favourite in spite of heavy con- cessions in weight. He won com fortably, although Mr. Harriman on Gay Chuander' gave him a good race for the first mile and Mr. Harriman was actually in front at the dis- tance post. Hero Wild Life was

asked for an effort and he at once responded, winning on the bit. Daylight Eve was a good third and those who backed him had a nice

dividend.

Hunan Handicap. Don was a hot favourite for the second race and he won without an effort, leading all the any home.

Ajax and Wembley Stag made a good men of it for second place and the former wou by a length and a

half.

Kwangtung Kandicap.

There were seventeen starters in the third meg for "D" class ponies over a mile and when the gate went up Mr. Pan sent Gold Bar to the front. This position ho kept all the way round and ulti- mately won by a head from a rank outsider in Venturous, a pony which won recently in Macno, but gen. erally considered much behind the others' in class.
