In Hoolywood's pictura colony, which has almost 25,000 persons depending on picture production for their oxistence, there are leas than 050 people-executives, play- ers, writers and technicians-who have contracts assuring them of employment for any real period of time.
Of these 030 about 870 are under contract to major studios, the others being tied to independent producers and studios. That leaves over 34,000 working on a week-to- week basis and, for the most part, gambling on their returns.
Of the total number contracted, 75 per cent, are hever further away from option time than six months; 13 per cent. hold three month con- tracts, while the remaining 10 per vent. have tickets calling for over six months.
