THE SINGAPORE CIVIL AERODROME.

RECLAIMING THE KALLANG BASIN.

TO BE COMPLETED BY END OF, 1935.

In the article printed below Mr. R St. G. Gaulfield, tho Resident Engineer of the Singapors Civil Aerodrome scheme, reviews the work which is being done on the Kallang Basin sito, the total area of which to be reclaimed is 330 neres. The canalisation of the Geylang River will divide this area into two parts, namely the aerodrome proper containing 236 acres, and the Fort Road area comprising 81 acres.

It is estimated that the total filling required, making duc allowance for settlemont, will be approximately 6 million cubic yards. The full working programme calls for the transport and placing of 3,000 cubic yards per eight-hour wift, for which pur- poso plant comprising seven main line locos, five shunting locos and 490 tip wagons of threstondio-yard capacity have been pur- chased.
