The news that Leyland, Tate, and Verity had been selected to fill the three vacant places caused a certain amount of surprise in one way. The choice of Verity was not unexpected.

I have already three bowlers and Hammond who, as a bat, will only be used sparingly sa a change. The inference is that at least one more bowler is needed, and F. R. Brownt carries my money. R. E. S. Gentlemen, as probably most of you are aware, negotiations with the Government were opened last year with a view to acquiring for the use of this Club that piece of ground between the Clubhouse and stands formerly retained by the Jockey Club for the 3/4 mile start.
Negotiations were rather pro tracted, but the outcome of repre- sentations made during the current year is that the Football Club has been definitely allotted for its use the portion of ground indiested.
