MR. C. D. LAMBERT'S PRACTICAL * HINTS TO MOTORISTS.

HOW CAREFULNESS SAVES BREAK- DOWNS-AND YOUR POCKET.

Seldom has a local Rotary Club address proved more popu lar than that given yesterday by Mr. C. D. Lambert on "Why the well-known did it Happen." Mr. Latumert is of course motor expert, whose hobby is helping fellow motorists out of troubles, so members realised that they were getting the best of advica on a subject that affects them closely.

As the Hon. Dr. Tao, president of the Club, who was in the Chair said; Mr. Lambert bad unveiled all the mysteries of the trade. Rotarian Shield was equally enthusiastic and suggested that the address be translated into Chinese, for the benefit of those who had Chinese chauffeurs.

21

Rotarian Lambert's offer to give a practical demonstration of some of the points which he had dealt with in his address was greeted with applause and no doubt the Rotary Club will have the privilege of further motoring advice from this source.

WHAT NEGLECT OF SIMPLE PRECAUTIONS LEADS TO!

Mr. Lambert said:

The driver pulled up, and, as he did so, noticed smoke 19suing from various poitita about the front of the vehicle. He had the wisdom promptly to turn uff the petrol .tap under the dashboard tank Then he got down, crened the bonnet, and found the carburet. on fire. ter flooding badly and It soon burnt itself out and the only damage was a scorched dash- board and bared high tension wires.

How did that happen; a back- fre into the carburetter might have caused it, but in this cras it was due to a broken high tension terminal, which allowed the spark- ing plug end of the wire to fall onto the float chamber; a series of sparks occured there, jumping to earth via the Boat chamber lid and ignited the pet within.

In another caro afletached wire from a plug was the cause of an expensive roplacent, the driver within ton in this instances miles of horse or a long days run, and when of the cylinders suddenly cruseo fire he refrain- ed from stoppig at once tu sce what was wig.
