GENERAL AVERAGE DECREASE IN SECOND QUARTER
OF THIS YEAR.
As measured at the Statistical Branch of the Imports and Ex- ports Department wholesale prices in Hong Kong during the June questor of 1009 showed on balanca general average decreases of 4 per cent, as compared with the first quarter, and 3.2 per cent, as compared with 1931, there being increases of 18.6 per cent, and 20.7 per cent, as compared with 1921 and the base year of 1902 res pectively.

The National Federation of Chinese Industrial Organizations has been trying to meet this need. Recently its general secretary, Dr. Chien Chen Hau, met President H, C. E. Liu of the University of Shanghai and they discussed the importance of education and industry. As a result of this conference, the Federa- tion has decided to co-operate with University of Shanghai in the fol- lowing projects;
(a) To co-operate with the Schoo! of Commerce of the University in the training of industrial leaders.
(b) To co-operate with the School of Science of the University for scientific research.
(c) To co-operate with the Yang- trepoo Social Centro of the Univer sity for promoting welfare work among the labourers.
