Ona needs to play him several times to get to know his intentions. I tried to keep rallies going in the hope that he would crack and give me a chance to win a
Fame or two and thus break bis confidence.
But, instead of "cracking," Vines got better and better.
His length was beautiful. He never gave me a chance to conta to the net, but kept me struggling on the base-line.
That First Service.
r
Apart from his first service, Vines's play was not overwhelming. The second service was only dinary, but I had to be cautious with it, because, at the back of my mind, 1. knew that he would try to get in his first service. which was untakuuble-two three times in every game.
We were both inconsistent in the. first eet.

or
In the second and third sets I could not fathom where Vines was going to place the ball. Always he hit it where I was not.
There is only one story to p told-and that is that he was much too good for me.
