GERMAN ON SERIOUS CHARGE.

ALLEGED LARCENY BY BAILEE,

There the three men of mystery got out of their car and produced from the sacka-sandwiches!

They ate them with relish in front of the disappointed police.

At that moment, miles away, one of the most important cock-fighting mains for many month was being hold without police intrusion. It had been organised from the very town whose police sleuths had been decoyed away to a picnic party by the "sandwich men."

The main had been arranged by

leading exponents of cock fighting in the north, and some of the most doughty birda had been matched.

Secret Leaks Out.

A site was selected on the bleak moors nearly on the Lancashire border, and, although only a fow of the people who were to be pre- sent knew the exact time and place, the secret leaked out.

The knowledge that the police WOTO on the look-out came to the organisers' cars less than two hours before the arranged time.

It was too late to cancel the event, but not too into to alter, the de tails.

Telephone calls were put through and visits were made to cortain

places.

The result was that, at the time originally fixed for the start of the expedition, three men got into a motorcar na I have described.

Plain-clothes policemen had been watching their house all day, and, as the motor-car left (with, as it was thought. gamebirds in the sacks), some officers went in police David Diedrich Dolise (30) of Al- cars in pursuit, while others flash tona, Germany, described an Assi.ed a warning to other parts of the stant Manager of the Advertising county along the route the men with and Publicity Bureau, residing at the sacks wore expected to take. the Hotel Metropole, was brought before Mr. Schofield yesterday on a charge of commission of larceny by bailee of diamonds, valued at rupees 2,200 (local qurroney 83,703) to the prejudice of J, Green of Зача
