His Worship: It is pretty Inte to do that, you know.
Asked by his Worship whether he was changing his ples, defend. ant, who had previously pleaded not guilty, replied in the nogstave.
As all the evidence for the pro- seention had stredy been given, bi Worship asked defendant if he had anything to say.
Defendant I have nothing to
RAV.
His Worship: I have gone “over the evidence of the prosecution very carefully and 1 find that the ovi dence is conclusive, I therefore convict you.
However, there must Jara ROC reason for your doing this i
Delosidant: I'm led up with the Ariny.
His Worship: Even if you, as you says are fed up with the Army, 15 is not a good way of showing it by bringing disgrace to it..
Defendant: It is the only way to be discharged:
His Worship Think of the dis grace. You realise the seriousness of the offence? You are ecnvicted of felony, a thing which will follow you throughout life, in every coun- try and everywhero you gɔ,
Defendant: I have already die- the graced myself by joining Army.
His Worship: No, no. You must not say that in this Court.
Inspector Elston painted out that defendat's net must have been Fremédiated and entcalted. It was hot the fact of a"man who was saddenly tempted. It was also not the case of a man who was fed up with the Army and wanted, to get ont of it. If it was he would not have run away.' bus would have stayed there until he got pinehrd.

Mr. Horace Lo, defending, in ploading "Chuilty" explained that it was through sheer fright and nervousnes that the defendant fail- ed to report the accident..
Trade-Inspector C.F. Alexander stated that the case was a serious ane, puinting out that the defen- dons must go before the Inspector General of Polica (the Hon. Mr. T. H. King) at the conclusion of the sorious case. The I.G.P. Look n view of the matter.
Mr. Lo asserted that in this onse it was not so much callousness a sensu of fear. It was only natural. for a driver or anyone, to rup sway through fear.
"
His Worship-1. know. But we have got to discourage that feeling.
In faing the defondant $30 or three weeks' on the first charge, and 825 or to days on the second count, his Worship remarked that it was very serious matter." If drivers are going to drive un after accid- ents, not caring what has happened, the Colony will become an extreme. ly dangerous place to live in he added.
Several Similar Cases.
Trafic-Inspector C.F. Alexander, for the prosecution, remarked that ' the defendant had acted in a very callous manner, after having knock- ed down and killed a girl. Several case of this natare had bron, re posted, and only on Monday night, a Chinese man was killed in Nu- than Road, Kowloon, under similar cirmumstances. The Police, he said, had a hard job tracing the offenders. It was a serious case.
