LARGE AND REPRESENTATIVE GATHERING AT GOVERNMENT HOUSE.

CHEQUE.

A very large and representative body of men and women, European and Chinese, met yesterday aftomoon at Government House-by invitation of His Excellency and Lady Peel-to say farewell to Bishop and Mrs. Ruppuy

The occasion was a and one, for both the Bishop and Mrs. Duppy have endeared themselves to all with whom they have come into contact during the 1 years since Bishop was consecrated' to the Seo of Victoria. That Mrs. Duppay was too ill to be prosent was an added distress to bar many friends.

The Chairman for the afterdoon was Mr. P. S. Cassidy, who, in his sporah touched broadly on the work that the Bishop had done for the people of the Diocese. Dean Swann also spoko, giv ing his hearers an idea of what the work of a Bishop of Diocese like that of Victoria meant.

After the speeches and the Bishop's address, Lady Peat pre. sented the Bishop with draft for £100.18.0 being the aum coli Touted as a larg well presentation to Bishop and Mrs. Duppuy from their friends in the Diocese.
