HILARIOUS COMEDY AT

Students of fim history will re member this film as a sweep hit in the dark 1921 eea when cineman were so dimly lighted that peopis really cald hold bands at the back. Ab those dear old-fashion el days!
Mae Marsh..
Mae Marsh was then a beautiful young thing who basked in the directoria) sunshine of D. W. Grit fith, greatest of the non-speaking) wizards.
The new light of the talkies finds her no longer a star. Stupid young women from aft over the world have coused to send her letters. She hus in fast, learnt how to net.
Instead of adding to the already heavy lot of the postman, she ac complishes, a definitely worthy cou tribution towards cinematic art.
The only fault one can find in her exquisite, performance is the eagerness with which she embraces age. She leaps from sturdy work- ing motherhood in Act one to grey-haired, exhaustion in Act two. Her children, in the meantime, hav scarcely aged by half as much. Nevertheless, it was a satisfying} *performance.

There is also some charming, act ing by children. I admire these Americans for the sympathetic was they handle their youngsters.
You must remember that when you see a picture of children quar relling happily together in a gar den they are, in reality, aurround- ed by shirt-sleeved technicians, that a microphone is hanging like the sword of 'Damocles over their heads, and that two or more cameras are pressing suffocatingly close.
Try to be natural under such conditions! In British pictures (I'm sorry I have to any it) the children assume an acquired brag- gadocio, a superpoise which is as
unnatural as a kid of five drinking
cocktails.
