LADY PEEL PRESENTS PRIZES: TRIBUTES TO HEADMISTRESS.

Striking tributes to the work of Mias Wop, the Headmistress of St. Paul's Girls' College, ware paid by the speakers at the annual speech day of the College yesterday afternoon. The tour of America and Canada undertaken by this Indy in search of fund for the College, culminating in the complete liquidation of the debt under the shadow of which the new College building had gimmaneed its career, waze referred to and praised in no uncertain terms hy His Lordship the Bishop of Victoria and the Hon. Dr. R. H. Kotewall.

His Excellency the Governor and Lady Peel were present, ac- companied by Captain T. A: H, Coltman, A.D:C., Lady Peel pro senting the vortiñantes to the successful scholars, while the Bishop presided. Also among those on the platform were noticed the Rev. E. G. Stewart, Headmaster of St Pouls Boys' College, Mr. G. P. De Martin, Director of Education, Miss Woo, Headmistress of the Collage, the Hon. Sir Shou Son Chow, and Miss Kotowall, of the, College Council,

Woo's offer, they would have been more than satisfied if she had bean able to raise $100,000; but sho actually collected $100,000 in Hong Kong money, and secured from Mrs. Proctor Realy in America the gen- erous undertaking to present the College with ten free scholarships annually. Not, content to rest on hor laurois, Miss Woo has managed to raise yet another $38,000 since hor return to the Colony.

To-day, the College is happily free from debt.
