KOWLOON RESIDENT'S ASSOCIATION REPORT

APPEALS FOR BATHING AND POSTAL FACILITIES.

GOVERNMENT SYMPATHETIC BUT NOT

HELPFUL.

The report of the Kowloon Residents' Association for the year 1831, begins by quoting the census figures, and emphasising the size of the Peninsula town.

The decennial census of 1901 revonled that the population of Kowloon had more than doubled during the past decade. To quote. from the official census report, Kowloon--almost entirely urban, is now comparable in size with Nottingham r Portsmouth and in not far short of Newcastle-upon-Tyne where the population in 1921 was 978,000 persons."

The phenomenal development of the Peninsvis during the last few years, resulting in beautifully laid out streets and thorough- fares, fine residential areas, a delightful homely atmosphere, and incrossing industrial importance, is an achievement of which the Colony Day well be proud. During this amazingly rapid trans formation, the necessity for such an institution as the Kowloon Residents' Association, to advise on the numerous municipal ques tions attendant on such an expansion and to promote the welfare of the community has been apparent, and the value of its work is generally acknowledged.

The Report goes on to say that:

"The year's work of your Committee was not been without its quota of disappointments and problems unsolved, but something at least has been accomplished; and we are able to claim many im. provements in the amenities of Kowloon as the result of our on- deavourd"
