LORD RUTHERFORD'S NEW X-RAY DISCOVERY.
An X-ray discovery of far-reach- ing importange was announced by Lord Rutherford recently, when he opened the British Institute of Radiology Exhibition at Central Hall, Westminster.
Lord Rutherford said that scientiae problem which had defled solution for years had just been solved at Cambridge.
The question of the origin of the Gamma rays had been a most dif- cult problém.
**I and my workers in Cambridge have been much interested in this problem," he added. "In the last year-in fact, in the last few weeks --a concentrated attack on the sub. ject has been made in my labora- tories.
The Gamma Rays.
I now secris clear that the Gamman rays arise from the Alpha particles in the nucleus of the ntom, and have, nothing to do with

This "discovery will throw light on the nuglens itself, and is a re- Emalt of great interest and import:
