ELEPHANT TUSKS AND SKELETON OF GIANT GIRAFFE.
Moscow, Dec. A-Numerous tusha of pre-historic elephants and the skeidton of a giant giraffe have been discovered in the Kulundski Steppe in Western Siberia in the course of exenvations under the auspices of the Academy of Scienes.
According to the announcement of that institution, the discovery is of trendendous scientific importance inusmuch as it had always beer as sumed that the Kulundski Steppe between Paiodar, Barnaul and Semipalatinn had formed the bot- tom of the sea which in pre-historie. times had extended into Western Siberia. The discovery of anmples of a pre-historic fauna, it is de- clared, contradicts this thesis and establishes beyond doubt that the Kufundski Steppe had been part of the continent for a longer perind than had been nesumed.
