RUGBY FOOTBALL.

ARMY LOSE TO CLUB-IN- TRIANGULAR TOURNAMENT

GAME MARKED BY FINE PLAY

ALL-ROUND.

The first of the series of rugger matches in the triangular tourna- "ment was played at Sookunpoo. over the week-end when the Club boat the Army by a goal, a dropped goal; and three tries, (18 points), to a goal and a try (8 points).

The Club, started off in dashing style and scored nine points after This minutes' play. many seemed to put the Army out of their atrida; but they rallied later und proved dangerous on several beensions,

Dunlop at full-back for the Army, played a great garde but Whitham did not play his usual game and failed to find touch several times.

The Club three-quarters handled well throughout. Selby was pro- minent at the base of the serum and worked the "blind side" to advantage Hoskins, his opposite. worried him ocensionally, and gave his three-quarters a good share of the ball but their attack was wanting.

Lammert Scores.

The Army forwards were a rons. ing let and dangerous in the logne. Prior, Grapham and Suter being natatanding. The Club forwards were well led by McElney and carried the early scrums, but failed to keep up the good work.

A few minutes after the kick of Lammert steadied himself and dropped a goal which took the Army by surprise. Shortly after Griffiths obtained Club's second score, Me- Lellan adding the major points.

With the Club drawing blood so early on it looked as if it was going. to be a one-sided affair, but a spirited rally by the Army curried play inia Club, territory when

Stevens and Hamilton were giv
