LOVE DRAMA OF

WOMAN BANDIT'S PASSION FOR LIEUTENANT.

LOVER'S TERRIBLE

REVENGE.

Ajaccio, Nov. 10-With the arrest of the beautiful Marie Caviglippi to-day, the life history has been revealed of one of the strangest and most dramatic figures associated with banditry in Corsica...

This woman, who is how only 30 years of age, has been something of a legend in the island for a des cade. She was engaged at 13 and was married when 16. In 1994 "she became the mistress of a young lieutenant of the famous Roman- netti. But there was nothing placid about the union. Periods of idyllic attachment mingled with those of the fiercest hate. Sometimes hum- ble and resigned, sometimes raging tigresa, Marie so reduced her lover to submission that he fre- quently grovelled tearfully at her feet. Once during a quarrel she stabbed him with a filetto and

Swift notion on the part of, the Naval authorities has resulted in the recovery of a part of the booty taken by pirates on Wednesday last-SATURDAY, NOV-28, 1991, from the Butterfield and Swire As. Hanyang.

After consultation" with H.B.M. Consul and the Chinese General ab Syntow, says a meashge from the Commander of H.M.S. Sterling to the Naval authorities hore, the Sterling embarked party of Chi- nese troops on Sunday, November 22, and proceeded with them to examine the coast in the vicinity of Namon Island.

Apparently H.M.S.. Sterling had takon a very active interest in the gang of pirates responsible for the piracy of the Hanyang.

Completely Burprised. Having made sure that the gang had not taken any steps either ta rench the mainland or to convey their booty there, the Sterling mado a dying visit to Swatow from the vininity of Namon Island, embarked the Chinese troops and returned to Namos Island

The pirates were taken, complete. Fly by surprise, and thirty men, sus- Fected being members of the gang which took part in the Han- ynar coup; were taken into euntody.. while several houses in Namos vil- lage were burnt in the ecursa, of the operation.

Presumably the captives will be taken by H.M.S, Sterling to Swatow where they will be handed over to the Chinese authorities.
