Silk Net is Favoured.

Silk net, as in other houses, was used for many evening models. A brown silk act dress suitable for a young girl had a square neck with two slightly stiffched lace frills over the shoulders giving as suggestion of brief sleeves. Similar lace frills trimmed the hemline and the ends of the net wash which tied in a bow at the back.

It was a long strip of material, fastened into wristbands at each end. The front was cut into a squarn to disclose the geor gette frock, and held closely to the waist by tied ends. It was slipped over the hond.

Ruching trimmed the sleeves and hip yoke of a blue crepe afternoon dreas. It was also, stitched on in doop oval right round the neck and shoulders to give a light 'cape effect. The upstanding pockets on the hips were shaped something like the three-sided glass shades for wall electric lights. They were lined with pink to match the pink buttons that taimed the bodice

The sleeves of a pretty black wool romaine frock were pouched at the elbow and then finished in pim

pernel red crepe mittens.A tiangular tab of red introduced a note of colour to the centre front of the waistbols. Those sleeves, pouched at the top, and then skin tight from elbow to wrist, are the popular modified version of the leg of mutton slovo. They are fea- tured at every show

One of many cleverly-cut dresses featured a definitely geometrical design. The material-green wool fabric-was diagonally pin-tucked in the pics, 12 yards of the original fabric being, needed to produce a yard of the tucked material. Then the dress was so made that the diagonal line of the tucks was re- versed at several seats, with trian- gular resalta. Narrow revers of black broadtail trimmed the bodice.

Lace Elbow-Bands,

Elbow bands of narrowly-frilled ceru georgette trimmed the sleeves of a brown velvet afternoon frock to match the inlet frilled georgette collar. The dream was out on prin- cess lines. The narrow panels at back and front had six vertical rowa of stitching which ended about two inches above the hemline, leaving a tiny frill back and front.

COLOURS FOR UNDER- CLOTHES.

A minor revolution is taking place among those who create fashions in underwear; a few innovators aro attempting to bring about n chango in the colours which are considered correct in smart lingerie Pink and all its related shades, such as | peach, apricot, coral," salmon, havo held the fold as leading shades for many years and some designers | think it is time thero was a change. All sorts of reasons are urged for the moyo, Bome say that pink and peach are not really becoming, to the skin. Others argue that sinco pink has now becoino the universal- lingeria, shado it has lotschet " (and must not be used in the best styles. Others again, with more logic, agy that they want a change for changy's sake. An attempt has been made fo introduce, sky, blue, but this colour's drawback is that Fit is not generally very fast to washing, and on that ground alone could never hopo to achieve, popu- larity. Some leading underwear designers now pin their faith to green, bath in apple and lime shades, as a successful underwear colour. Several firms have already. begun to urge green, not only show- ing it in all their ranges but muking up pale green sets with brassières and corsels to match. Corset menu- facturers in particular, in buying muteriais for their new productions, have ordered largo quantities, of satins and brocades in pale green. White is another lingerie colour which is enjoying something like a revival. In the opinion of those Who are best able to judge, the return to Victorian: fashions is like- ly to give a fillip to the vogue for white in underwehr and to encour age the use of floo lace and cotton Fabrics, such as naiasook and baliste fer billowing petticoats.

THE CHILDRE N'S CORNER.

OLD MATTHEW MOLE

If you read this to the children they will realing what in, of course, Falready obvious to the grown-up-~~

that it is all ip whyme.

Old Matthew Mole made mechani- cal toys, he made them to wind up without any noise, he made them to move without any jerk and this, 50 he said, was most intricate, work! He wore a green cont and a little cloth car and a thick leather apron fixed on with a strap, and he worked at a bench which was covered with tools and little wire springs, and wheels, rods and spools But old Matthew Mole he knew at a glance where to find the right springs to make little dolls dance, and he knew without look ing which box held the glue and just where his paints and his brushes were too.

His mechanical toys he made by the score, and there he bung up by strings on his door; and the antics they cut were really so funny that old Matthew Mole, wouldn't sell "them for money.
