The latest British production to arrive in Hong Kong is "The House of the Arrow," the piclurina tion of AE. W. Mason's well." known thriller, which commonces at the King's Thontra-ta-clay, "The House of the Arrow is a murder- mystery-melodrama; it is a cleaver story of binckmail and murder and their surprising solution.

It is raro, in `n British produč tion, to find one's interest, so effort leanly unazad in the effect, and po hayo it so sustained throughout the entire development. This entirely satisfactory state of affairs is due, in the first place, to the inherent strength of A, E. W. Mason's thrill ing Story, but it must be recorded that this has the further morit herë af superlative direction by Leslie, Hiscott, and a brilliant piece of characterisation by Dennis Neilson" Terry in the dominating role of the French detective, Hanaud.

No praise can be too high for the narrative skill with which the director has handled his characters, and the entirely convincing manner in which ho has co-ordinated" the many mysterious and sivistor in- eldents to a dramatic whole of sus picion and suspense. Early scones, for instance, which show the dying woman gasping out incoherent curses about brandy and 'blackmail, lightly suggest latterly that the murder may well be. tho,, demure Upcott, Betty's companion, and the suggestion is emphasized by Hanand's connecting her up with the knowledge of the poisonöd

Such clues as these, "to gether with Hanand's insistent questioning, so adroitly throw us off the scent, that we are left de lightfully baffled na to the joint in- dentity of the murderer and !' the' acourage
