Making their pictures simultane- busly has come almost a tradition with Douglas Fairbanks and Mary Pickford. I began in 1922, when Fairbanks made Tobin Hood," and Mary made Tens of the Storm Country." THREE GIRLS LOST."

The name of Loretta Young is always sufficient attraction tu cinema audiences. And when John Wayne the meteoric hero of "The Big Trail and Low Cody are also in the cast, the result is apt to be extremely pleasurable...

This is the case with

Three

| Girls Lost," Fox comedy drama which is now showing at the King's Theatro. Based on the story" of "| Robert D. Andrews and directed by Sidney Lanfield, Three "Girls Lost turns out to be a highly diverting tale of a trio of daniels from as many country towns, who come to Chicago to seek the not in. compatible combination of jobs and

romance

+1

While each, obtains the former, the romanes proves more elusive; one of the girls makes, the 'old mis take of loving too well; one is frankly a gold-digger, who finds the task of handling two men at once somewhat beyond her powers, and the third, none other than Miss Young, spends most of her time extricating the others from their troubles.

With young Wayne at a strug- aling architect and Cody as a Packeteer, who passes as a wealthy -man-about-town, the masculine element is capably represented, and these two furnish the majority of the difficulties in the girls' respec- live paths. The cast includes Joyce Compton and Joan Marsh is the other lost maidens.

A CONNECTIUT YANKEE”

Will Rogers, whose newest Fox production, Mark Twain's "A. Connecticut Yankee" opens at the King's Theatre, is one of America's most unique personalities.

He is more completely himself than any other native of America. He is entirely without skam or pratense, is kindly and good humi oured because that is his nature.

Like so many of America's great, Rogers sprang from humble begin. nings. Born in Indian Territory, his earliest work was that of ranch hand. He became such an excellent cowboy that he decided to capitalize his skill with the lariat, and rode forth from his father's ranch one day to throw and hogtie the world.. After considerable struggles, he obtained a small time vaudeville booking. The money he received was scarcely adequate to feed him- self and his, horse, but he kept Í struggling,

Big time vaudeville scouts dinal- ly spotted him; and he rapidly climbed to fatis as a headfiner. From vaudeville he graduated to Ziegfeld productions.

When the talkios arrived Rogers' became a star at once. He has. made three of these for Fox, They Had To Ste Paris, "So This Is London," and "Lightnin'"

Selection of his present vehicle, "A Connecticut Yaukee." was an ideal one, combining as it does the wit and humour of America's two rentest-humorists Twain and Bogers He is supported by such- | players as Mauraan: O'Bülli- van, fyrna Loy, Frank Albertson, and William Farnum, David But- ter directed,

COMMUNISM'S FAILURE.

REPORT OF AUTHORITY ON RUSSIA.

New York, September 11-Com- munism has ended in Russia, although faw Russians themselves are aware of it, according to Col Hugli L. Cooper, who, as an Ameri- can engineer in charge of the Dais per River development, was reputed to be'in the confidence of Stalin.

Ho has made seven extended trips to Russia during the last five years, and at the conclusion of the latest of them declared Communism is not only abolished, but the Soviets aro operating on a State capitalism bosia.

"Furthermore, the Soviet intend eventually to swing to a modified Bystein of private capitalism. This is not hearsay, but information from the powers that be." Col. Cooper expressed the opinion that American, capital should not be in vested in Russia for some years, but that Russia offers an attractive market for manufactured goods. · ́

He also holds that, while the Five Year has been falling behind schedule and that the training of skilled labour to operate plants, when completed, will bring addi- tional delays, the plan as a whole

must be called a success.,

RUSSIAN CENTRY'S STORY

Moscow, September 4.The Taan Agency supplies a full account of the trial and noquittal of the sentry .who shot Mr. William John Stephenson, chief engineer of the British steamer Kingswood, on August 18 outside a military depot in Leningrad.

|

According to the Tass Agency, several witnesses deposed that Stephenson walked into the 'pro- hibited zone guarded by the sentry in spite of continuous warnings by whistle and land. It was alleged that on coming to some barbed wire separating him from the sentry, Stephenson went round the barbed wire and proceeded in the direction of the prohibited zone and directly towards the sentry, although the /sentry called out Halt, I will
