According to statistics China is buying larger quantities of foreign grown tobacco than any other coun- try Exported tobacco to China

previous years.
Acting upon these figures the Kwangung Provincial Government have decided to inaugurate a tobac co anles bureau to be run in con- junction with Finance Depart-
The following information of the typhoon was courteously given to a representative of the Daily Pre by an official of the Royal Obser- vatory late last night, and was thement. The scheme it is said will increase the revenue of the Province and prevent smuggling of oigaret tes, ote. The bureau, will sell and manufacture cigarettes and cigare and will also control the prodtleis of non-government manufacturers.

The typhoon that has been troubling Hong Kong entored the coast sixty miles East of Hong Kong yesterday afternoon. It is nów moving slowly Northward and is probably filling up.
Another» Urosses the Pacific. Another typhoon has crossed the Pacific Ocean and is now moving through the Luchu Lelands, which are situated about 250 miles north east of Formost. At 2 p.. yester day it was 100 miles south-south-chat of Adhimin, moving on a north westerly course.
The entire. sales of tobacco will therefore, be under government supervision. The selling prices will be fixed by the bureau and will be approximately fifty per cent, higher, than the cost. A report of market tion, is to be made to the govern conditions, prices, and the consump- mont by the hurenu at stated times
All packats of cigarettes and cigars are to have special certificates icing sold not bearing this mark affixed to them, and any tobacco

This typhoon is not likely to trouble Hong Kong, in fact it improve the wenther, locally.
Danger of Gales Passos. It would seem that the prob- ability of the "Colony experiencing gales from either of the existing typhoons is very remote, the general tendency being for the weather to improve.
What Happened to Yesterday's Typhoon,
The history of the typhoon which for some considérable time remain- ed stationary unpleasantly close.to Hong Kong, and which was the cause of some local misgivings, is given below:-
On Thursday morning" depres- sion formed to the north of the Paracels in a trough of low pressure extending from North Annam to Luzon. By Friday afternoon, it had moved to the north of the Macales. field Bank, and on Saturday morn ing had developed into" a typhoon, moving north,
It later changed direction some- what and moved east north-east, passing to the soutir of Pratea on Saturday evening. Towards night" it curved north-west and approach ed Bins Bay. By 6 a.m. on Sunday it was about 100 miles east-south- cast of Hong Kong.
Proceeding on a north-westerly track it became stationary on Sunday afternoon about sixty miles east-south-east of Hong Kong, in Latitudo 22 North, Longitude 115 Eant, remaining so until Monday.
There were, then possibilities of a gale striking the Colony, but the news that the typhoon has entered the coast definitely disposes of any such fears,
