The last time, he was made President was twenty years ago but he felt sure that with the support of a crowd of such fine sportsmen, his duties would always be very pleasant.

During the year our worthy Vice-President, Mr. H. R. Forsyth, 9.24 went home on leave, and we look forward to his return carly in the 9.23-,, now season, full of vigour, and willing to assist once again in the 9.32 management of the affairs of the Club.

We were unfortunaté to lose two of our most popular members- Jimmy Boanar, Vice-Captain of the rugger side--who was transferred to Singapore and Jimmy Stewart, our stalwart soccer centre-half, who did seemed service for the long period of 17 seasons, he has now returned to England.

la turning to the financial side of the Club you will see that a net profit of 83,031.63 was made on the year's working, against a loss of 33.831.16 for the previous year, This, you will agree, is a most gratifying result

Sound Financial Position, The fannoint position of the Club is sound as may be seen from the balance sheet. With a membership of almost 600 the small sum of $130 to be written off as bad debts speaks for itself.

A great amount of credit is due to the retiring cominittes for the ellcient manner in which the busi- ness has been conducted through- out the year, and on behalf of the Chub, I would he to tako, this oppurtunity of thanking them for work well done.

I would also like to thank the various sub-committees for their "work" throughout the year, and 1 feel I must specially mention our 'honorary accretary, Mr. MoTavish,

for their work during the year, and specially Mr. Alexander, our hon. treasurer. Thanks are also due to our honorary auditors, Messrs. R. West and E. B. Gammell, and the Club is grateful to them for what they have done.

I think I have touched on all the important points of the year's work, and I have now much plen sure in proposing the adoption of the report and accounts, and when some member has seconded this I shall be pleased to answer, to the best of my, ability, any questions that any members may wish to ask.

The texal timing for breathing is to inhale while one arm is ro- same arm is palling through the covering and to exhale while the wator and the other recovering. ST. ANDREW'S Y.M. CLUB. Hondquarters on Monday, August

Thus you breathe in and out anës to each complete áím syèle, niways inhaling over the same shoulder.

Another method which may have sprints is to inhale while on arm "something to recammed it for short is recovering, hold your breath while that arm pulla, exhalo while while it recovers. By this method the other arma pulls, and inhale you breathe in on alternate sides, inhaling and exhaling onca, to every and half completa arm cycles.

Dealing with the first method which is the one that I use: find the head for inhaling and keep to out which way in the easier to turn that side. Never roll from side to sido. Inhale on one side and hale hard under water with eyes

front.

1 Breathe over my right shoulder, therefore my head, although it must move separately from my shoulders and body, follows my right arm round,

*

At the same time that I am mak ing the effort to dive through the water with my right aris I"make the effort to breathe out mard 'uns as I am closing it, then through der water, first through my mouth

my nose.

My right arm is now, recovering, I am inhaling through my mouth so my head is turned to the side, only. Never inhale through your nose when swimming, heraus if there is any water"in it you will choke, also it is necessary to get the maximum amount. of air into. your lungs during the short period that your mouth is above water. Keep your head turned to the sido until the elbow is in line with your eyes, then turn eyes front, not: down, and commence to oxbale again as you begin the arm pull.

Exhaling is the more dificult part of breathing as you have the pressure of the water to blow against.

The beginner's chief fault is try- ing to inhale anderhale, during the short period that the head is turned to the aide. with the result that he does not, li or empty his lunge and usually pets a mouthful of water. Another common fault is to get only a small bite of air instead of using the whole Jungs. This is often due to tausing the neck and throat uricles,

Relaxation.

Nearly every beguiner and oven a number of experience, crawl swimmers complain that they can- not last for any distance. This is partly due to incorrect breathing but more to the laid of relaxation.

In the crawl.stroke it is difficult to say at what point the legs are. more relaxed than another. think that they should be partially relaxed the whole time.
