A HONGKONG LIDO

COLOURFUL SCHEME FOR REPULSE BAY.

DANCE-HALL, SWIMMING POOLS AND

ESPLANADE.

From unofficial sources we have been informed that one of the largest and most far-sighted local enterprises ever planned ip the Colony is now under consideration and only requires Govern- ment sanction to be put into operation.

We learn that the Hong Kong, Realty and Trust Company, tot which the moving spirit is Mr. J. H. Taggart, have submitted plans to the Government, which, if passed, will virtually mean the laying out of a Hong Kong Lido at Repulse Bay a which will fill a long folt want, especially in these days of re- arricted bathing amenities.

AMBITIOUS SCHEME.

n schema

The new plan is an ambitious one and incorporates the very latest in many forms of entertainment.

THE EASTERN END OF REPULSE BAY.

As is well-known, the Hong Kong Realty Trust Company are the owners of large areas of land (measuring about 300,000 q. feet) at the eastern end of Repulse Bay. It is now proposed to pull down the Eve bungalows at present on the site and to construct thereou a huge open-air dance-hall, a restaurant, salt- water and fresh water swimming pools and decorative bathing boxes; to lay out lawns and terraces and to build an caplanade on the spot. occupied at present by a number of mat-sheds, the owners of which will be amply compensated. That part of the beach fronting the area in question, will, of course, not be inter-" fered with.

A THOUSAND, DANCERS.

The dance-hall will be large enough for a thousand dancers and will, of course have its own orchestra.

One of the most pleasant features of the schenie, will be the lawns and terraces which will be dotted over with huge coloured umbrellas under which bathers may take shelter from the sun-

There will be accommodation in the bathing boxes for 500 people, who, for, a very small charge, will be able to change in comfort. "

In order to make room for the wide esplanade, it is proposed to divert the present road bebiid instead of in front of the com pany's land, so that it will overlook the sands below,

SWIMMING ALL THE YEAR ROUND.

The swimming pools will be of the latest design with the moss modern equipment and will be open all the year round By having both a salt water and fresh-water pool, bathers who have used the former can "wash-off" in the latter.

Altogether, the scheme is a most attractive one and the pro- moters are to be heartily congratulated. We await developments with interest::

Some of us may regret the passing of the rural beauty of the Repulse Bay we all know, and which holds a real place in our hearts, but in these days enterprise is to be encouraged and though it will be a more sophisticated Repulse Bay it will remain a be auty sport of the Far East.
