Replying to a question in the House of Commons regarding the facial position of India, Mr Ramsay MacDonald stated that the financial strain' on the Government of India was due to depression, which had been accentuated by uncertainties which attended the discussion on constitutional changes, and more particularly, the con- sideration of provisions to be em- bodied in the now constitution to ensure dnancial stability: It will not be possible to introduce the proposed constitutional, charges if the Gnancial stability is not as sured, and His Majesty's Govern- sment is determined not to allow a state of affairs to arise which might jeopardise the financial stability and good Government of India, for which the Secretary of State is at present responsible.
