"THE BACHELOR FATHER"

There a two things Marion Davies strongly dislikes. One is riding a horso. The other is flying in an acroplane.

But she had to do beth as though she enjoyed it in "The Bachelor Father," her now, Metro-Goldwyn- Mayer starring vehicle, now play. ing at the Qupon's Theatre.

"I'm not afraid," explained the 'vivacious comedienne, "just ou tious.

However, she performed both scenes with hilarious results and no misfortune, although the tri motored ship used in the picture brushed the tros tops in taking off from the airport..

Stago audiences are familiar with Ed Wynn's droll foolery, but, un- til talking pictures reached their present development, it was tim- possible to present this master of clowning offectively on the screen. "THE SOCIAL LION."

Jack Oakie, the perscnification of wise-cracking American youth, has boon get ig better and better in each succceding picture. It is" therefore nothing, short of joy to see and hear the irrespressible Jnok: in his most recent role, that cf Marco Perkins in "The Social

Lion," which opened. nt the Con tral Theatre yesterday,

The Social Lion" is an adap. tion of a famous Octavus Roy Cohon story, Marco Himself" and it proves. to be right down Mr. Oakie's alloy

To begin with, it's a neat little plot. Just like all of Octavus. Roy Cohen's stories, there are many surprise twists in the telling of this one, and the final scene is at once mirth-provoking and Con vincing.

But most important of all, is the inimitable clowning of Oakie, Hư is seen in the role as the poor, but honest and very brash garage me chanic who aspires to fame" in the field of epcrt. Failing 48 pugilist, he gets himself a job on the polo team of the country club in his own town, and makes good, having been a star polo player on the enlisted men's team of the cavalry unit with which he served n term..

Having made good in polo, Jack now thinks he can make good in social circles into which he has boon projected by the force of his. horsemanship. But he fails misar ably as a tea perforiner, and loses the society girl with whom he had thought ho was in love. In the end he has to concedo the victory to the plain little girl, Mary Brian, and to the plain life of plain folks.

Skeets-Gallagher, chief suppor- tor for Jack, as bie pal and mana- ger, gleans a number of laughs for himself Misa Brian is her sweet self again. Others in the capable supporting cast aro Olive Bcrden, Charles Sellon, Cyril Ring, E. H.. Calvert and James Gibson."

“PLUNDER.”

People in the Colony had offer asked why British films have not ucon shown like the productions of other countries in a British Colony Hike Hong Kong. The explanation given by Mr. D. F. Lai of the Con- tral Theatre management is that it is mere difficult to got in touch with British producers than with Americans who have agente in the colony.

To please the British community, the Central Thentro has spared no efford in trying to bring mcre British films to their seraon. To. their credit two auccesses of the English film Industry such as Alf's Button" and "Balaclava" have been introduced to great advant-

ago.

It is a pleasure.to announce that the Central Theatre has informed us of their third success in got- ting hold of more British talking films, though at great expense. They have secured two very good comedies this time. "Plander", and Lord. Richard in the Pantry,' both from famous stage playe
