A FILL-UP IN THE RAIN,
GAUZE FILTER NECESSARY.
**
Every motorcyclist knows what a lot of bother can be caused by the presence of a few drops of water. in the petrol tank. Most of us have been troubled this way more than once and have been puzzled, perhaps, to know how on earth the water, got into the tank. "Carbon" tells this story in the current issue of Motor Cycling.—
"It had bosa raining but had cleared up when we pulled up for juice at a waysido station with ex- posed pumps. My friend insisted on not removing the large gauzo filter from his tank filler, much tɔ the indignation of the attendant," who reeled out the usual story of the pump filters being quite ad- equate.
"After the fill-up we romoved the ganze and found a teaspoonful of dirty brown water Pumps placed under shelters probably do not offend in this respect, but the moral in any case is to have a good gauze in the filler.
"If that sort of thing is still go- on it would seem advisable for designers to reintroduce the gauze fillers which, of recent years, have been considered unnecessary.
