"BIG TRAIL"

One of the most spectacular as well as tensely dramatic incidents replete with thrill see and heard in Raoul Welsh's Fox Film, "The Big Trail," is the Indian massacre) a préduction of a historical inci- dent at Fort Hall, Idaho, whero acarly a hundred years ago minraud- ing Indians wiped out a waggon train.

Massacre Ronke, still standing, is a memorial to that tragic event. All the 723 Indians employed in the films took part in this scene.

Historical research revealed that every waggon train that traversed the regular overland trails was under constant surveillance. With bat revealing the least sign of their presence, scouts of the Barnges i signalled every movement of every train. Evidence of it was afforded by the fact that small outfits were often attacked suddenly and over- whelmed.

Many, many times there were peace conferences held and the head chiefs of the northern plains tribes would agree to bury the hatchet,

for as long as the sun rises in the east and the water runs down the hill." But the Indians were adopt a promises, something they learned from the white men, who made promises and violated them, consequently they had adopted the same tactics.

There is but one trail," the chiefs would say," that is the white man's road. It is smooth and easy walking. We are weary of mov- ing about and would stay always We will plow the in one spot. ground and raise corn and tame buffalo. We will follow the white man's road,"

And both the whites the Indinus would be disregarding their pro- mises within a wock, the white men killing buffalo and invading new boundary lines and the Indians lifting a few scaipa at the earliest opportunity: All of these, elements intertwined in the Indian it appeare on the King's Theatro sereen.
