CRAIGENGOWER AND CIVIL SERVICE SENIOR TEAMS WIN THE OPENING GAMES.

DOUBLE WINS FOR KOWLOON C.C. AND CLUB DE RECREID, ELECTRICIANS BADLY BEATEN,

Cinigengower and Civil Service, fast season's champions and runners-up respectively in Division I. of the Lawn Bowls Longue, mado a good start in the opening games of the present season by taking the points. Club de Recrel and Kowtoun C.C., both play ing an home ground, had the better of the visitors.

The highest argin of victory was 18 shots and the lowest 13 shots, indienting a close runs in all the games.

In the Second Division games, Kowloon C.C. established the highest margin, 25 shots, when they were the guests of the Hong Kong Electric R.C. at North Point. Kowlona Bowling Green Club and the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Cluth also turned the points in their favour by a margin of 18 shots in each case. The latter beat Civil Service C.G. junior: champions. Scar- borough, Oxford at Oxford, Cam- bridge at Fenner's, and a rantch with the New Zealand team at Har. rogate. Major R. C. Chichester- Constable will again exptain the Second Team, which will take part in the Minor Counties competition, playing five counties (hone and away).

Macaulay's Beneft.

Macaulay has been gives the Surrey match, at Bradford, on July 4, 6, and 7, for his benefit. Macat- lay was, for some years, not only very good, but a great bowler. He had such life and energy, and was always attacking the batsrunn- "a hostile bowler," as O. B. Fry would put it.

Macaulay did not show by any means his best form as a bowler in the Test match at Headingley in 1920, when C. G. Macartney play- ed the innings of his life, but his 70 at a grave crisis deserved the remarks of a Yorkshire enthusiast. "Mac-the batted champion." He and Geary saved England on that July morning five years ago, and it was another Yorkshireman, Sut- cliffe, who, with Hobbs, botted magnificently on a broken wicket when the old Country followed on.
