When Signorina Valerio was lead- ing by 3-4 in the first set, Miss Heeley fell in dashing to the net to kill a lob, and badly cut her knees. She resumed after treatment.

Miss Nuthall served twelve double faults and her ground strokes were not characterised by the crispness which usually accompanies them. Madame Mathieu was good in her volleys, and her returns, were always well placed.
