The cup, which is 123 inches high, is also known as the Thomas à Becket" cup, on account of the initials TB and an engraved mitre. But the silver-gilt aunts, pearls, garnots, and surmounting figure of St. George and the Dragon are. typical of the date shown by the hit-mark for 1525-0.

Originally the cup was a simple font-shaped pines "of ivory, with a plain circular lid.
