They can put their arguments before the Currency ultimatum to the offect that if they Commission, from whom they can persisted in their strike and their bo sure of a patient hearing demands for higher wages and loss whereas if they write anything to the papers they receive in return work they would never again find little clac than abuse and the taunt employment in San Francisco, that they are interested parties. Letters written in the strain of your correspondent's are hardly encouraging to anyone to come for ward and give the explanations de- sired,

Sometime ago I took the trouble to set forth the arguments against independent netion, in your morn- ing contemporary, and subsequently answered all the correspondence that arose from it, using the clearest possible language, and not shirking any point that was raised. In my final letter I dealt exhaus tively with the queries and argu ments of all my opponents," and not one of them replied,

AN APOLOGY TO MR. HO IV.

Mine was a genuine effort to ex- plain many of the factors and prob- lems about which the man-in-the street, admits he knows very little, and as a matter of fact I received thanks from several people who described the letters as the first attempt to put these argumenta bè- fore the public. It has seemed since that the time spent on writ- ing them was wasted, and the neers which the correspondence brought forth and the frothy ful- minations which took the place of argument, were convincing proof

In the Correspondenco Columns that the newspapers were scarcely the best medium for the thrash.published, in our issue of April 24th there, appeared a letter over the ing-out of economic problems.

If, therefore, I return just this once to the forum in answer to "Anti T.P.R," it is not with the object of entering on another con troversy (this is my solo contribu- tion), but because the point meŋ- tioned by him has often been brought up by others and perhaps no attempt hus so far been made to explain it to the public. He points out that as there is already a difference between Kwangtung currency and our own of some thing like. 30 per cent., would not affect us if it were 130. per cent or 180 per cent, (with Hong Kong on gold). Now this is where the difference lies. At pre-publicity, he can to fight against
