ASTON VILLA REDUCE THEIR CHANCES OF
OVERHAULING THE ARSENAL,
MOTHERWELL CHECKED.
Gaining three points in their two matches during the week-end, the Arsenal made their position more or less safe for the English League championship, profiting also by the downfall of Aston Villa. at the hands of Portemouth, who deprived them of a point on Fri- day. The return match between the Arsenal and Portsmouth to- day, if won by the farmor, will assure them of the championship. Button were the only Division I. team to win on both days.
In the Second Division matches, Everton, Charlton and Port Vale were successful on both days Reading, who bent Stoke by seven goals to three on. Friday, lest the next day by the only goal of the match. Netts County, Southern Section londers, took the points by the smallest possible margin on Saturday after a som- fortable earlier victory. Southend dropped from second to fourth ince by losing on both days. Lincoln regained the leading posi tion in the Northern Section from Tranmere, who are strong rivals for promotion.
'Motherwell dropped a valuable point in the Scottish Lengue when they played at home to Partick instead of away. The Rangors took the points by one goal, and, with the advantage of a game in hand, they have a chance in denosing Motherwell from the top position. Celtic had a fairly easy win over Ayr United, whose stay in the First Division is now in danger:

ANCHORED 250 MILES FROM BERMUDA.
New York, Mar. 26.-Mr. Edward Aunstrong, inventor, 10-day Ex- hibited a model et a floating aero. drome on which, he said, netuat construction, work will begin in April.
Mr. Armstrong said he intends to anchor his floating aerodrome at sen, 250 miles off the American const in the direction of Bermuda. It will be the first of a chain of auch aerodromes which the inven tor hopes to have extending all the way to Europe to make aeroplane travel across the Atlantic ocean entirely safe.
On each floating aerodrome there will be hotel, hangars, machine shops, fuelling stations and all of the equipment needed to service, aeroplanes as they fly across the
ocean.
The aerodromes will be built here and then they will be towed to wherever they are to be anchored. Air lines using the facilities of the "aerodromes will be charged for the service their planes receive and Mr. Armstrong believes that he can promote a profitable venture. He predicts that very soon bis acros dromes will make transocean flying entirely safe and comfortable. For several years he has been workingg out the problems which must be faced not only in the construction- of the floating aerodromes but in anchoring them at sea and in making them capable of riding out the most severe of occan storms.
Mr. Armstrong has devised'' stabilizers which will keep his aerodromes from rolling with the waves. His runways, he said, wi bo long enough to permit even ther largest of 'planes to land and take off with perfect safety.
