REPORT TOR LAST YEAR.
The Report of the Committee of the Society of St. George, Hong Kong, for presentation at the an nual general meeting to be held in the Board Hoom of Messrs, Jardine, Matheson & Co., Ltd, "on" Monday, March 30, at, 5.30 p.m., states:— The General Funds show balkner, of 84,573.94, an increase of $123.16 as compared with the end of 1020, while there is a balance of 32,280.08 at the credit of the Enter- £ainment Fund. The surplus from The 1830 Ball Account whs 1829.10. which was included in a transfer made from General Ball Funds in the Entertainment Fund.
The calls on the Suinty for relief were comparatively small in num ber but the amount disbursed was $1,033.03, part of which was a con- tribution towards the passage of a distressed Englishwoman and ber daughter who were repatriated. Close tough was kept with the Hong Kong Benevolent Society al ́the Charities Organization to ensure that those seeking relief from the Society were deserving of aid.

HONG KONG AND THE MUI TSAI PROBLEM.
His Excellency, the Governor, Sir Willinin Peel, K.C.M.G., K.B.E., yesterday laid the foundation stone of the nnw Po Leung Kuk at Leighton, Hill Road.
In the course of his address to the largd assembly of representa tives of both the Europan and Chinese community, His Excel- lency, speaking on the mui trai system in the Colony, said that thers were obvious defects in the system and the Goverment had decided it should gradually be eliminated. He asked for the co- operation of individuals and bodies. "Cruelty to children is not inherent in the mud taai sysiem, nor is it confined to mui trai, or even adopted children, nor is it peculiar, to the East. It is, however, a most despicable crime, and every effort is now being made to bring offenders to justice," said His Excellency.
