AN ANALYSIS OF THE PIECE GOODS TRADE IN 1930.

Prefacing its monthly report on the trade of the Oolong of Hong Kong for January, 1931, the Statistical Branch of the Imports and Experts Department states that as the huge falling-of in the exports of British entton piece goods to the Chinn market is one of the main problems walch la being investigated by the British Economie Mission, it would be of considerable in- terest to analyse the figures of the importa of British and Japanore cotton piece goods into Hong Kong during the years 1930 and 1924.

Newcomers to the Methodist Mission,

Since the end of October four newcomers have joined the United Methodist Mission from England, Rev. W. Roy Ayloth who has come fresh from College for general work, Nurse Fieldsend for the Hospital, and

Dr. Elmslie J.

Dymond and his bride, to act as colleague to Dr. E. T. A: Stedeford who with his wife and infant son have recently returned from fur lough In England. Miss Doidge, B.A., has also returned from fur- lough, and, in addition to the over- sight of the Mission Primary Alixed School, is hoping soon to extend her hctivities in work amongst older girls in the higher schools of the city, and in the organization af Christian Endeavour Societies and Sunday Schools in rural districts.

The Harvest

At the time of writing the fields for miles around the city aro bear- ing splendid crops of vegetables, of brend beans aiready in flower, and of Stantung cabbages-a recent culture here so far as your corre- spondent knows-while; the spring wheat is growing pain. A few weeks ago when unusually early Keen frosts were experienced, it seemed not unlikely that such vegetation was doomed. A walk across the fertile plain encircling this city showed the thousands of neres of vegetation as far as the ey could reach-in on almost hope- lónly wilted condition.
