Inspector En Chen Tungs officer in charge of the Tan Chia Chino sub-branch of the Chapel section of the Greater Shanghal Bureau of Public Safety, was shot dead last Sunday evening by some person or persons unknown and efforts are now being made by the authorities to apprehend his assassins. The results were a good that in the following year, five other villages joined and the Calcutta Milk Union was formed. The mové- ment spread and by 1927 there were 81 village societies in the Union somo of them situated as far as 50 miles from the city, The Union How deals with 10,000 pounds of milk per day. All milk is brought to a central depot where it is strained, pasteurized, bottled and stored in a colatrange room await ing sale. The Union has its own. Veterinary. Surgeon, its own chemist and its own stud farm..

The late Dr. Chaterzee, a phy- sician and philanthropist, conceived the idea to apple the co-operative system to public health in the villages. Starting in one village as an anti-malaria move it proved so successful that the principle was extended to public health in gen- eral. Other villages followed suit and in Union was formed which erected their own dispensary and employed their own doctor. In 1097 there were 1,000 village societies and 20 unions.
