CHAMPION APPEARS.

INTERESTING INDIAN TIE,

Despite the bloak weather for terday, a good crowd turned up at the Hong Kong, Cricket Club courts to watch T. Honda, bolder of the Open Singles, make his initial appearance in the current Tournament. He was, opposed to a worthy opponent in E. F. KILREA SPEEDS OVER THE MILE: FAST GALLOP BY AUSTRALIAN PONY.

SAM HOUSTON SHOWS FLASH OF

[BY "MORNING DEW."J

SPEED.

Gallops at Happy Valley were followed with the usual keen interest by a large number of railfans yesterday, but with the exception of a very excellent gallop by Kilroa, ono of the Australian ponies that will be racing at the forthcoming race meeting, thero' was no outstanding gallop.

Ridden by Benny" Pronix, Kilrea was sent over the mile, doing the first quartor, in a fraction over 2 seconds and the hall mile in just under the minute. Kilrea went on to ánith the first thres quarters inside 1 minuto 30 seconds and completed the journey in exactly two minutes, which is very fast going indeed, oven for an Australian pony.

The pony is at the moment at the top of his form, and taking into considoration the fact that the gallop was done on the sand track, the performance is indeed very credible. Experts seconds of yesterday's time under in the game feel that Kilren can at least cut off five or racing conditions.

Sam Houston (Mrs. Dunbar'a Derby candidate) laid great claim to Derby honours whêu, he finished the last half mile of a mile and a quarter gallop in a little over one minutes. The pony is a real speedster, and even if it does not actually win the Derby, it will have a great deal to say in shorter re zes.

THAT DECISION!

CRICHTON-EWIN FIGHT

REVIEWED.

A RETURN MATCH NEXT MONTH?

Br

WELTER.

The Hong Kong boxing world is still full of the Crichton-Ewin fight which ended so disappointingly in the ninth round on Saturday night, and despite the fact that they had

a very clear indication of who was the better man, on that night's showing, supporters are still divid ed in their opinions as to who will win if the men are matched again.

And now I have interesting nows for boxing enthusiasts for I have bean officially informed that there

is a possibility of another fight coming off in the first wook in March. Both men are very anxious to meet again and they have, as far as I know, started training already. The difficulty appears to bo the Theatre Royal. Bookings for other shows are rather heavy,

what with the A.D.C. offering and other events, so that the scrap

might take place in the Loe Theatre; but of one thing I am surc, and that is that the Boxing Asso- ciation is doing all it can to stage the âght.

That Decision!"

Going back to the scrap last Saturday night, I must confess I was very disappointed with both men. Thero has been a lot gaid about it being a grudge fight, but

I saw "Jack" the other day and ho denied strenuously that it was Bo. The said the blow was an ac cidental one and I am sure most witnesses are of the same opinion.. But was the blow, accidental er not, hard enough to really hurt Ewint

The sailor was visibly in agony for a brief spell but after he had

recovered himself, he showed that

he was able to carry on when the refereo announced that he was the winner. And here Fmust add that

I have spoken to quite a number of people who are well up in the fight game and they have all ex pressed surprise, regarding the re- ferco's action in consulting the judges before giving the verdict to the sailor.

One exponent of the "noble art" maintains that the referee, is in the ring to see fair play and he alone. should be the sole judge of whethor.

I have heard it said that had the fight continued, Ewin would have won by a knock-out and I rather think ho might have possibly dono so. Those three punches he landed on Crichton's chin in the eighth round must have had some effect, not to mention those that he connected to the ribs Crichton, 80.2
