At the Hong Kong Branch of the English Association, Fr. Byrne S.J. road a paper on "Beauty in Words" The following were some of the principal ideas touched in the lecture:

During the past deande, the Chinos have catablished an vious record for themselves, and have enjoyed a series of success, very gratifying to their nationals at large. Any close follower of the gama can at once recollect the per-bar. formances of Ng Szo Kwong, the first Chinose to win the champion- shin, who dominated on the local courts from the beginning of the decade to 1923, and it is not irre levant now to add thrt prior to that he also won the Singles title from 1918 to 1000, so that he actual ly won it for six years at a stretch a record which will admittedly be exceedingly difficult to equal.

Singles and Doubles Titles. Both the Singles and Doubles Titles have gone to Chinese during the years under review. Ng Szo Kwong and W. The Poets.

We naturally look to the poets for the most delicate expression of the beauty of the sound in words. They are the professional weavers of words, marked by refinement of elevated diction, A worker in olay will make a different model from a worker in iron or in silver, so the poet will select his words to suit the light or heavy effect to be produced.
