Because of a breakdown of part of the stage mechanism at Drury Lane Theatro, Sir Alfred Dutt's spectacular £30,000 musien! play, "The Song of the Drum," which WAS to have been prohteed on January 3, was postponed.

During what was to have been the final rehearsal a lift which forms part of the tags jammed in such In position that a strip of stage вomot 70lb. long and 12ft. wide remained about 12in, above the remainder of the stage.

When the mishap occurred there was a gallery queue of about 40 people, most of them. women and girls, who had been waiting since 10 o'clock in the morning. They were informed of the postponement and went away.

More than 1,000 people had been invited to attend the rehearsal at

8.15.

Tolegrams and telephone mes. sages were sent to as many as possible, but hundreds of people arrived at the theatre during the evening to find the doors closed.

The management announced that all tickets booked would be available

when the show opened.

It is estimated that the inishop in repairs, extra chorus salaries, and lost business will cost between £2,000 and £3,000.

Lowis Stone heads the support- ing cast in the picturization of the famous Edward Sheldon stage play in which Doris Keane triumphed for six years. Others featured are Florence Lake, Clara Blandick, Mathilde Coment, Henry Armetta, Elliott Nugent and Countess Nina de Liguoro.
