ARGYLLS DISPOSE OF SOUTH WALES. BORDERERS IN CLOSE GAME,

The Hong Kong Football Club disappointed their supporters when they went down to South China by six goals to nil in the first division of the local football league, though in fairness to them, it must. 3o said that they did not have their full team out. Much interest was centred on the Navy-Eastern match in the second division which resulted in a win for the sailors, the East- ern defonco breaking up badly against the strong Navy forwards.

In the third division, the Royal Army Ordnance Corps con- tinue to win and are going strong for championship bonours, while the R.A.S.C. scored another fine win, this time at the expense of South China.

The Chinese wore too good for the Club and won easily by six goals to nil.

South China attacked early but the Club defence proved safe for a time then Fung King Cheong received a

good pass when he was very well-placed and opened the scoring with a fast, low shot. This player was reponsible for some very clever work and before the half-time whistle sounded, he added two more goals to give South China & 3-0 lead.

When play was resumed, the

Club gore decidedly a bosten team and tried as McBride did, he could not get his forwards going. Fung again found the not with a nice. shot and this was followed by an- other from Ip Pak Wis; Just be fore time, Fung netted again to bring his "bag" up to five.

CLUB UNLUCKY IN DRAW WITH C.S.C.C.

TWO RUNS TO WIN WHEN TIME WAS CALLED.

NO UPSETS IN SECOND DIVISION: ALL FAVOURITE

TEAMS WIN,

With five league matches being played in one afternoon, in- torest in league cricket appears to have been revived aftor having been neglected for some time.

The match of the afternoon was the meeting of the Hong Kong Cricket Club and the Civil Service Cricket Club on the former's ground. This resulted in a draw which was unfortunate for the Club for they needed but two runs for victory when stumps' were drawn. The other first division match ended in an easy win for the Royal Artillery over Craigeagower Cricket Club, who, after a flash of good form carlier in the season, seem to have gone to pieces.

In the junior section, three clubs in running for champion- ship honours were seen in action and they all won, thus leaving the situation unchanged. Civil Service beat the H.K.C.O. in a low-scoring match, Kowloon casily accounted for the Royal Corps of Signals, while the Indians took full points from the Royal En- gineers.

Weather and ground conditions were not conducive to good cricket though there were one or two cases where individual play. ors shone,

ONLY TWO RUNS TO WIN. -

Then Time Intervenast

The match between H.K.O.C.

and O.S.C.C. was played on the Club ground, and the home team had bad luck in that when they needed only two runs to win, time was called and they were forced to share the points.

Civil Service, batting first, were given a good start by de Rome (44) and Sayer (33), and with a useful 24 contributed by Mr.. Extras," they totalled 140.

This was by no means a big total against the Club and the latter were only one run behind when stumps were drawn. T. E. Pearce was top-scorer with 63 while A. O I. Bowker collected 32 not out.

Bad Running by Sappers."

Playing on the Military ground. at Sookunpoo, the Indinn Roeren- tion Club juniora boat the Royal Engineers by 70 runs.

The Indians won the toas nhd elect- éd to bat first, and after losing the first two wickets cheaply, they went on to make 100 runs for the loss of eight wickets when the innings woa declared closed. A, R. Suthad again camo off with the bat, making 33 runs in a stylish innings' while "A.S." got 30 and Barma and Rumjahn cack 20, not out..

The Sappers started badly but at one stage it looked as though they would be able to force a draw but bad running, botween the wickets saw three of their mon run out, this probably coating them the match, Deavall played atout- hearted knack for 17 runs, but had little or no support from the rest of the side.
