The instrument was apparently succesful and has been established to the extent it is taught in many of the music schools of Paris. Alfred Cortor, the distinguished pianist and director of L'Eealo Normale, hus arranged for instruc tion in L'Instrument d'Ondes Musi- cales in his school.

M. Martenot's life has been devot- ed to music since his early child- hood. When he was nine, he and his sister Ginette, who is with him, and who has worked with him in the development of his invention since he first conceived it, were concortizing in Europe. For several years he and his sister have been at the head of their own music school in Paris.

There is a five octave keyboard, similar in appearance to the key board of a piano, and inside the desk-like apparatus are electrical tubes similar to those used in a radio set. These tubes set up vibrations which are transmitted by means of a diffuser to what resem bles a loud speaker placed on a stand near the instrument.

It is through Dr. Leopold Stokowski, who was instrumental in introducing the Theremin, that the Martenot instrument was taken to America. Dr. Stokowski heard the instrument in 1928 and was given a private demonstration of it last year after M. Martenot had effect several improvements.

Professor Martenot is now on a world tour and will most probably give a demonstration of his musical invention in Hong Kong in the near

future.
